About Freesat

Freesat is an exciting new service which has been launched in the UK. The service offers 80 digital television and radio channels, as well as High Definition channels and interactive services. Freesat offers better quality images than conventional analogue terrestrial television and doesn't have a subscription fee.

Freesat is a joint venture between BBC and ITV, which was launched in the UK on May 6, 2008. It is aimed to complement Freeview, as it will have a greater broadcasting area than normal digital terrestrial. Freesat is hoping to add more and more channels to its service in the near future, along with video on demand services, such as BBC's iPlayer.
